there is a scam going on around Frederick County  Authorities say they’ve received calls over the past few days from citizens who say a representative from the Sheriff’s Office had called, using the name of an actual member of the Sheriff’s Office. That person advises  them there is an active subpoena, and it can be resolved by paying a certain amount of cash. The Sheriff’s Office says the phone number is an online-based number that cannot be tracked. If a citizen calls back, a person answers “Frederick County Sheriff’s Department Warrant Division.” Officials with the actual Frederick County Sheriff’s Office say this is a scam.   They say the Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies will never ask for money or restitution to resolve an incident. Residents should know  that these scams have a sense of urgency; if you don’t take action, something will happen. These scammers also say not to contact family members or friends, or police.
