Doing “nerdy stuff with computers” eventually lead David Angel to a corner of the internet where he was introduced to subterranean exploration. Soon he was a member of the Southern California Grotto, a caving group. Despite witnessing a tragedy on his first outing, he became more involved in the group eventually branching out into canyoneering and other adventurous pursuits.
