Regarded in the field of music as one of the greatest chorus directors and influential music minds of the last 25yrs, John Larsen (or "Dad" to many of his students) is an exceptional mind. Responsible for shaping the musical infancy of some of the greatest voices to come out of Jacksonville, FL., the music scene as we know it would not exist in the manner in which it exist without John. Some of your favorite music promoters, producers, DJs, rappers, jazz singers, gospel singers, and musical educators have all sat under the learning tree of Mr. Larsen and I was privileged to get a chance to sit down and catch up with him before he starts off his new school year. We talk about everything from growing up in Jacksonville, choosing to attend JU, how he got into teaching at First Coast High, why he left First Coast and how many more years he has left before he rides off into the sunset.
