Est. 1984 Podcast

Probably the biggest episode of Est. 1984 that I've ever done. If you don't know who Wendy Day is I don't know what the fuck you're doing with your life... I really don't. Wendy is one of the single biggest influencers in hop hop HISTORY (yes, like in the history of everdom). She's either played a part in or be the pivotal part of deals for numerous independent labels and is most notable for her contributions to securing the now legendary 80/20 deal for Cash Money Records in the late 1990s. I got a chance to sit down with one of my idols and just listen to her educate me. You don't hear me say much on this episode because when you're in the presence of greatness you learn to be silent. I've been waiting to do this episode since... well probably since I was a kid in the music industry. Thrill Da Playa (known for being a member of 69 Boyz, but has accomplished so much more) for me is an icon in the same way Bigga Rankin was an icon for me as a kid aspiring to be in the music industry. I had a blast sitting down learning more about his career. Hopefully you guys will learn a thing or two about this hip hop legend and why his impact is so far reaching. Enjoy!

In life there are people who pretend they're fly niggas... and then there's J. Pimp. J. Pimp has lived the life I think all of us would love to live... the sort of life where you remain positive, you work hard and the greatness of what life can be just sort of happens for you. A great human being and an ambassador for the Jacksonville Hip Hop community, the role J. Pimp has played in chronicling the history of hip hop can't go unnoticed and I got a chance to sit down and chat with him. Enjoy!

This is quite possibly the most personal (and longest) podcast I'll ever do. Inspired from the story telling of Hasan Minhaj's recent stand up performance, it isn't necessary a comedy show, but a performance piece that showcases a portion of my life. Leaving the industry in 2013 for a variety of reasons, I finally got a chance to catch up with DJ D-Money to talk about his career, his rise to fame, his relationship with Point Blank Entertainment (specifically Ivory) and how drugs and alcohol abuse played a part in it call coming to a sudden end. It's a as much a tail of success as it is a cautionary tale of how things can change in an instant. Enjoy!

It took me awhile to get around to it, but I finally got my good friend Qualaam Waters on the podcast. Q is a legend in the Jacksonville music scene and his impact is so massive that it can't be ignored. We won't get to everything on this episode because... well there's too much to covers. The streets have been asking for this for over 12yrs and it's finally happened. The "beef" finally comes to a head it was is without question the most legendary (and longest) episode to date. Ivory Orr AKA C.E.O. and Brandon Kolby Jacobs AKA Boss Hogg finally square off on the podcast. I think we both shot straight to each other, Ivory gave some real perspective on his approach to business and yes... he does respond to the comments made by DJ 151. Additionally, you'll learn about how his mind works, he acknowledges struggling with letting people know how much he appreciates them, and yes we get into our "longstanding beef." And finally the man who I think a lot of the listeners have been waiting to hear from... DJ 151 is finally on the podcast!!! 151 responds to comments made by DJ Byrd about his departure from Point Blank, he discusses his POV on the comments made by DJ Pretty Ricky and he even takes some time to talk about his relationship with Ivory Orr. If you're interested in Jacksonville music/entertainment history this is a can't miss episode. After almost 13yrs, Byrd Sanchez and I get to sit down and talk. We'll go over a little bit of everything from his rise into the position of head DJ for Point Blank Entertainment, to the departure of company staples DJ 151 and DJ D-Money and we'll even talk about the impact Ivory has had on his career. Ty Sheeks is quickly becoming a staple in that Jacksonville radio scene and her work ethic is without competition. Today we sit down with the up and coming star to talk about her position in Jacksonville radio, how she got into her role, and some of the challenges she faces as a female in the radio industry.

Brandon has finally gotten DJ Cap on the podcast and in typical Cap fashion, he keeps it all the way real. If you liked the episode with DJ Pretty Ricky, you'll love this one. And yeah... no chance we're ever getting Bigga on the podcast now...lol

This episode is a class in "The Art of the Radio Hustle" with one of the youngest program directors in the iHeart Radio family and her name is Ashlee Young. She'll tell the story of moving across country from Washington (yes the state) to Jacksonville, FL, breaking into the radio game and how her hustle got her to where she is today. Definitely worth checking out!

Brandon returns after some time off to discuss what he's been up to while he was away. Oh and Bigga is probably gonna be mad at him again because he talks about the Diamond Awards and his experience with them...

One of the people I've admired the most in the Jacksonville music scene is Genedotcom because he's so terribly nice. Gene, was kind enough to get on this episode and provide some game to people on what it's like behind the mic in radio. He'll talk about his experiences growing up in the 80s, getting on radio in the 90s, moving into sales and even being fired from the iHeartMedia before eventually being brought back.
