Bridging The Gap

If we really got justice, which means what we deserve, we would be in big trouble. Instead, we get mercy, through the blood of Christ shed on the cross. Our study today is in Exodus twenty-three

Justice is a pretty hot topic these days.  We usually cry out for it, when we see someone doing something objectionable.  But when we're in the wrong, we're not so quick to ask for justice are we? We want mercy! What does God's word have to say on the topic of justice?

Every culture has their own way of dealing with crime - some do a good job, some not so much. As we wrap up our study of Exodus twenty-one today, we’ll examine what it was like during the days of Moses and the lessons we can learn from them. 

Today on Bridging the Gap we’re  going to see what being a bond servant means to our Lord, and actually to be a servant is to be like Christ.  That’s not the message you’ll hear in the world, but you will find that in the Word. 

 We find ourselves today in Exodus chapter twenty, where we’ll be discussing the Ten Commandments. There are quite a number of questions that surround these commandments. And many people today actually claim they have no relevance anymore. That’s astonishing! I mean, did you ever think you’d see the day when God’s laws would be effectively kicked out of mainstream society? It’s happening! 

It’s hard to hear someone tell you that you don’t measure up.  But that’s precisely what we need to hear in order to become right with God. Today on Bridging the Gap, pastor Lloyd Pulley will point out that God’s law says we don’t measure up, and we need Christ!  We’re in Exodus twenty, concentrating on verses twelve through twenty six.

We’ll be looking at Exodus chapter twenty today, where we find - you guessed it - the Ten Commandments. It doesn’t take long to see that we’ve broken God’s law, but that’s intended to drive us to Christ. Today’s message is part of our series through Exodus called “Deliverance”. God delivered Moses and His people, and He can deliver you too! 

Today we’ll look at Exodus chapter twenty, and the Ten commandments. There are specific reasons God gave these laws to Moses. Most Christians are pretty familiar with them, but you may not realize that God sought to reveal His nature and personality to His people through the words written on those stone tablets. Join us in Exodus chapter twenty.

We are currently going verse by verse through the book of Exodus, and today we will finish up our look at chapter nineteen. As God prepared Moses and the people of Israel to receive the Ten commandments, He also sought to remind them of His love and His Holiness. Like a good parent, God wanted to make sure that they knew He was “laying down the law” so to speak, because He loved them so much.

As we continue our study of the book of Exodus today, we are starting to realize that it’s much more than just an account of the Israeli people’s journey out of Egypt. Along the way we are learning many truths about the nature of God. Today in chapter nineteen, we’ll learn that one of the key traits of God is His Holiness. 

Today Lloyd Pulley continues our verse by verse study in Exodus. Last time, we began a look at chapter eighteen, but we didn’t get too far into the story before time ran out. Here we see Moses and the relationship he had with his father - in - Law, Jethro.

Do you have a wise and Godly person in your life? Oh, what a blessing that is, to be able to go to someone and know that the advice they give will be based on God’s wisdom. Today on Bridging the Gap, we’ll be looking at Exodus chapter eighteen, and Moses’ relationship with his Father-in-law, Jethro.

We’re in Exodus seventeen, and today we’ll look at  Israel’s battle with Amalek. God has a plan for everyone’s life, and He will use His mighty power to accomplish His will - and He can use you and me in the process. The key is letting God be in control! That’s exactly what Moses did here. 

Pastor Lloyd Pulley will again take us today to Exodus seventeen. Have you ever been the victim of a practical joke? Makes you feel kind of silly, doesn’t it? There’s an old saying - “fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me”. It’s amazing how we keep falling for satan’s deceptions in our lives - and the outcome can be much more damaging than any practical joke!  Exodus seventeen provides a great example. 

In Exodus chapter seventeen, we see a practical example of the difference between man’s wants, and man’s needs, and God’s desire to give us what we need - always with our best interests in mind!

Creature comforts are an everyday part of our existence. Whatever we want or need, it’s right at our fingertips. So why should we rely on God for anything? Well, God has a wonderful way of providing for His people’s needs. The problem is, His people often think they know better than God what those needs are.

There are some very common themes that run throughout God’s word, from Exodus all the way through the New Testament. One of those themes is man’s determination to do things his own way, and reject God’s intervention. A great example of this is found in Exodus chapter sixteen, when the people of Israel found themselves in need of food and water - and there was none to be found.

The story Lloyd will share with us today is a familiar one. The people of Israel, fleeing from Egypt, find themselves in the wilderness, without food or water. Now, God is fully prepared to feed them, and teach them a lesson about trust and faith.

How do you react when life deals you a tough time?  Do you complain and whimper? Or do you take an attitude of acceptance, that God has something good in mind through this trial? A good example of the right and wrong attitude toward trials is found in Exodus fifteen.

If I were to sum up Pastor Lloyd’s message today in just two words, I’d choose “God provides”. We’re going through the book of Exodus right now, and if there was ever a group of people who needed God’s provision during a tough stretch, it was Moses and his people fleeing from Egypt.
