Jesus refused to fit into the mold everyone wanted him to conform to. He knew who he was (he knew whose he was!), and therefore regularly chose courage over comfort. This is the wilderness, when everyone wants you to be someone you are not. When you choose to remain true to who God made you and find yourself rejected and alone.

B-Sides is a series of episodes where Pastor Brandon discusses whatever cannot fit into a sermon. In this episode, we take a closer look at character from Sunday's message "Mountain Climbing With Jesus" from the Gospel of Matthew. I interview my talented friend Dane Bundy about character and the various ways it plays out in the Christian life. There is magic in the mountains. The Bible records many encounters with God there. From Eden to Sinai to Jerusalem to the New Jerusalem. Matthew leads readers up the three mountains Jesus led his disciples up. Mountain climbing forms character, produces change, and calls us to heal the world.

"Preview" is a new series we will occasionally produce in order to accompany your reading next Sunday's passage in advance. In this preview, we will take a look at Matthew's gospel and some of the thoughts Pastor Brandon has on it.

A reflection on living human and practicing holiness in the aftermath of our teachings in Leviticus. We hope to produce a series of "B-Sides" every now and then. These will be episodes that contain afterthoughts and other insights that time couldn't squeeze into the Sunday message. Pastor Mike finishes the final chapters of Leviticus and closes with God's promises for us in Romans 8.

Life changes. But God's presence to us doesn't. So party, through life's changes, like a priest. Because we have a future. And a designer behind our change.

We know we are to love our neighbor and serve others. But we aren't always good at remember to love ourselves and take care of our own needs. Leviticus reminds us the importance of establishing boundaries.
