In this bonus ep Bakko chats with the producer of Hole's record, Live Through This, Paul Q. Kolderie. Paul Q. Kolderie is an American record producer, engineer, and mixer. He has worked with Pixies, Radiohead, Orangutang, Hole, Dinosaur Jr., Juliana Hatfield, Wax, Warren Zevon, Uncle Tupelo, Throwing Muses, Morphine, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Abandoned Pools, the Go-Go's, and Mike Gordon of Phish. He usually works with production partner Sean Slade. Kolderie and Slade were friends from Yale University, where they played in bands together. They also became members of Sex Execs, a Boston-based new wave music band of the early 1980s. The duo had their formative experience as producers while they were in Sex Execs. Most of the group lived in a house in Dorchester, Boston that was wired up as a primitive studio. Other bands came over to record as well, including a local act called Three Colors, which featured saxophonist Dana Colley, later of Morphine. Joining Bakko to breakdown this album is former host of the Rock & Metal Combat Podcast, Ian Wadley. Ian and Bakko go track by track. Dissecting this grunge classic. Live Through This is the second studio album by American alternative rock band Hole, released on April 12, 1994, by DGC Records. Recorded in late 1993, it departed from the band's unpolished hardcore aesthetics to more refined melodies and song structure. Coming in at number 5 on Rolling Stones Greatest Grunge Albums is Mudhoney's "Superfuzz Bigmuff". Joining the program this week is host of the Rock And/Or Roll Podcast BJ Kramp. BJ and Bakko go track by track on this early grunge classic. Superfuzz Bigmuff is the debut EP by the Seattle grunge band Mudhoney. It was released on October 20, 1988 through record label Sub Pop. The album was later re-released in 1990 in the form of Superfuzz Bigmuff Plus Early Singles. The album was named after two of the band's favorite guitar effects pedals: the Univox Super-Fuzz and the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff, which helped to provide the band's signature "dirty" sound. Coming in at number 6 on Rolling Stones greatest grunge albums is the second full length record from Alice In Chains, "Dirt". Joining Bakko in this episode is Chris Akin of the Classic Metal Show. Chris and Bakko go track by track and tell the story of Dirt. Dirt is the second studio album by the American rock band Alice in Chains, released on September 29, 1992, through Columbia Records. Peaking at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart, the album was also well received by music critics. It has since been certified four-times platinum by the RIAA and gone on to sell five million copies worldwide, making Dirt the band's highest selling album to date. It is the band's last album recorded with all four original members, as bassist Mike Starr was fired from the band in January 1993. The album spawned five singles: "Would?", "Them Bones", "Angry Chair", "Rooster", and "Down in a Hole"; all with accompanying music videos. Dirt was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. The music video for "Would?"

Dave and Bakko offer their insight as they break down this pivotal grunge record. Temple of the Dog was an American rock super group that formed in Seattle, Washington in 1990. It was conceived by vocalist Chris Cornell of Soundgarden as a tribute to his friend, the late Andrew Wood, lead singer of the bands Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone. Coming in at No. 8 on Rolling Stones Greatest Grunge Albums list is the 1993 record from Nirvana, In Utero. Joining Bakko this week is the host of Damn Good Movie Memories, Brian Davis. Brian and Bakko get into the details of the making of the follow up to the game changing Nevermind. In Utero is the third and final studio album by American rock band Nirvana, released on September 13, 1993, by DGC Records. The band intended for the record to be a departure from the polished sound of its predecessor, Nevermind. Early in 1992, frontman Kurt Cobain stated that In Utero would showcase "both of the extremes" of Nirvana's sound, saying "it'll be more raw with some songs and more candy pop on some of the others. It won't be as one-dimensional as Nevermind". To capture a more abrasive and natural sound, Nirvana hired engineer Steve Albini to record In Utero during a two-week period in February 1993 at Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls, Minnesota.
