Sinopse

Welcome to the Holderness Family Podcast! On Facebook and YouTube we are known as The Holderness Family. We make those silly songs and skits with our kids, but on this podcast, it's just us... the real us. The non-Christmas-jammies-us, the why-can't-my-socks-be-on-the-kitchen-counter-us (Penn) the why-do-I-have-to-go-outside-and-talk-to-people-us (Kim). On this podcast, we will share the real-life ups and downs of living together, working together, raising kids together, in what we hope is a funny and entertaining way. We will be taking questions that we are likely unqualified to answer (absolutely unqualified to answer) but we are hoping that the show will make all of your beautiful families realize you're not alone. You're not alone. We are all a hot mess... a HolderMess. The HolderMess: the Holderness Family PodcastThank you for subscribing and listening!Hosted by Kim & Penn HoldernessProduced by Max Trujillo

  • I'm Anticipating Your Needs

    07/12/2021 Duração: 39min

Marriage isn’t always 50/50. In fact, in our marriage, there are times one partner is pulling the entire load. The last few weeks have been tough for our family. On top of the “normal” family struggles that bubble up in every house, my grandmother’s health took a sharp decline. So Penn started using this phrase and pairing it with thoughtful action: “I’m anticipating your needs…” then he would do the thing that I needed. Let’s face it, you know your person better than anyone. You know what would help them feel supported. It takes some knowledge and a little effort, but dang, it’s a game changer. In this podcast, we talk all about how to bring "anticipating needs" into your marriage.Don’t forget to call us and leave a message - we might play your question in next week’s episode. • Feel Good Comedy with Fortune Feimster

    30/11/2021 Duração: 35min

It's always fun to interview people we can fangirl over and this week's guest is no exception. Penn and I talk to stand-up comedian, writer, actor, and fellow North Carolinian Fortune Feimster! Everything Fortune does seems to be steeped in positivity. We talk about her growing up in NC, what her parents must have thought about her becoming a comedian, and how she accidentally stole the show in the movie Office Christmas Party. We love Fortune's unique brand of comedic storytelling which she attributes to her Southern upbringing. Anytime we see her in a show or a clip online, she always makes us smile. You can see Fortune in a city near you on her 2 Sweet 2 Salty tour happening now. Penn and I talk about treating your marriage like a team using the most inspirational and uplifting muse we know… Ted Lasso. Our family loves watching Ted Lasso, and we’re going through withdrawals now that Season 2 is over. Totally kidding.)Thank you for listening! Your support means the world to us. Do you have ideas for podcast guests? CALL US AT: (323) 364-3929Or send us a note! Would you consider leaving a review? • Keeping Kids Safe Online with Roo Powell

    09/11/2021 Duração: 45min

*This podcast episode is around the heavy topic of social media and the prevalence of sexual predators. There is content on the show that people may find disturbing. Though it’s important to have these conversations with your kids, we recommend listening on your own first.* We interviewed my friend, Roo Powell, on our podcast in February 2020 where she talked to us about her work uncovering online sexual predators. Roo is a mom, writer, advocate, and the founder of  SOSA, Safe from Online Sex Abuse, a non-profit that raises awareness and combats the pervasiveness of online sex abuse and exploitation. Roo and the SOSA team have a new docuseries, Undercover Underage, that was released this month on Discovery+ that shows her work undercover to keep kids safe.  To learn more about the work that SOSA is doing and ways you can support this important work, visit their website at: sosatogether.org. 02/11/2021 Duração: 47min

People always ask us what it’s like to do our job. We get it. It’s a weird way to pay the mortgage. That's why we were excited to swap stories with fellow creators Kristin Hensley & Jen Smedley from #IMOMSOHARD on this week’s podcast. We guarantee these ladies will make you laugh, as we did PLENTY of times in this interview. You can find Kristin and Jen on the #IMOMSOHARD: Getaway Tour at www.imomsohard.com. • Why "I'm Sorry" Sucks

    14/09/2021 Duração: 31min

This week, Penn and I talk about how to really understand one another when in an argument. When you're in a fight, using the phrase “I’m Sorry” flippantly is really more about making yourself feel better than your partner. We used to use "I'm Sorry" as a "please-don't-be-mad-at-me-let's-just-let-this-go" Band-Aid, and it did us a lot more harm than good. Not taking the time to understand your partner can fester into having an insecure sense of attachment, among other things. Luckily, we have some magic words to help in this episode. • Decisions That Made Us

    31/08/2021 Duração: 44min

Right now, there's a trend on TikTok where people are sharing one small decision that changed the entire course of their lives. It got us thinking: What was that for us? Instead one small decision, we feel like we've made several big decisions that shaped who we are today. Penn and I decided to bring the discussion to our podcast and we learned a little about each other (which is a big deal because we’ve known each other for almost 18 years.) Here is a link to the 9 questions we asked each other: https://theholdernessfamily.com/9-questions-to-ask-your-partner-in-2021/ I encourage you to give it a try as well!   We wrote a book!
