    As an institution that takes great pride in the arts, our performing arts community never ceases to amaze us. They continue to push boundaries and forge new and exciting collaborations inside and outside the classroom — through multidisciplinary partnerships, innovative teaching and community engagement. Chancellor Alexander N. Cartwright talks with three members of our Department of Theatre to explore the many ways that theatre and creativity go beyond the stage. Dr. Suzanne Burgoyne is a Curators Distinguished Teaching Professor and the director of the Center for Applied Theatre and Drama Research. Xiomara Cornejo is a doctoral student and an associate director of the Center.     As graduation approaches for thousands of our students, we are excited for the bright futures they have ahead of them. They have worked hard in their areas of study, from the arts, to the humanities to the STEM fields. We are confident they will go on to excel in today’s workforce. Employers look for graduates who are effective leaders, communicators and global citizens, but they also expect them to be experts in their specific fields of study. We're proud to say 9 of 10 Mizzou students have a successful career outcome six months after graduation. What makes our students so successful? Chancellor Cartwright talks with two graduating seniors who are going on to wonderful opportunities: Hadas Cohen is a senior earning her bachelor’s degree in textile and apparel management, who will be working as a merchandising analyst at Walmart’s corporate headquarters.     From 1998-2000, Keyon Dooling was a leader on the Mizzou basketball team. His stellar college career helped him become the 10th basketball player in MU’s history to be drafted in the NBA’s first round, where would go on to play for teams such as the Los Angeles Clippers and the Orlando Magic. But for Keyon, life after basketball as director of the National Basketball Players Association mental health and wellness program proved to be an even more seminal role.     For centuries, art has been a tool to document and study culture. Today, art forms like animation, film and digital storytelling create dynamic opportunities for cultural study, particularly the study of indigenous cultures. Missouri has a particularly rich Native American history. Even our state’s name derives from the Missouria tribe and translates to “one who has dugout canoes.” So, how does contemporary art help reveal the rich culture of Native Americans? Joining Chancellor Cartwright this week are Joseph Erb, assistant teaching professor in digital storytelling, and Ryder Jiron, a junior studying communications who is also the president of Four Directions.
