Jaxon Washburn, a firm believer in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and a friend of Saints Unscripted, joins us for a discussion about millennials. A millennial is defined as 'a person reaching adulthood in the early 21st century.' However, President Nelson gave a talk about becoming a true millennial-- that millennials should not act in the way that the world defines them but in a way that they are defined by God.    Spiritualism is a big topic for millennials. If you've talked to missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (otherwise known as the Mormon Church or LDS Church), you've probably heard the word "apostasy." But what does that mean? And why does the Church place so much emphasis on it?    Members of the Church believe that when Christ established his Church on the earth, all of the authority necessary for baptizing and governing the Church were on the earth (through Jesus Christ). However, with the death of Jesus Christ and the apostles, the authority was slowly being corrupted and finally led to the Great Apostasy, meaning that the fullness of the authority of God was no longer on the earth. Don Bradley, one of the most fascinating guests we've had on our show, talked to us about his conversion and WOW. It's rather unbelievable. Don was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (otherwise known as the Mormon Church) and had always been intrigued by the doctrine and history of the LDS Church. However, with further research, Don began to experience doubt. He put his doubts on a shelf and served a mission in Houston, Texas. But when he returned home, the doubts continued to set in. Don soon fell away from the Church and asked to have his records removed. However, after many years, a few surprising events led him to reconsider the Church of Jesus Christ. Hear his story!! It's fairly uncommon for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (otherwise known as Mormons) to have multiple piercings. What's the deal with piercings anyway? Are members of the restored Church banned from piercing their body? If so, why?    In this episode, David, Justin, and Mimi discuss what the Church says about piercings. They also discuss that while members of the Church (otherwise known as the LDS Church) are discouraged from getting more than one piercing, there are certainly cultures in which it's okay. Kwaku, David, and Justin talk about dating a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (nicknamed the Mormon Church). Can LDS date outside of their religion? Or are they taught to avoid dating outside? And what are the host's opinions on the matter?    The hosts agree that dating outside of ones religion isn't wrong. It's okay to date whomever you believe is good for you, treats you with respect, and helps you become the best version of yourself. However, Kwaku emphasizes the necessity in maintaining your values in whatever relationship you're in. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are encouraged to be educated in both secular and non-secular things. They are also encouraged to be self-sufficient and be able to provide for their family, so career choices seem to be very important in the Church of Jesus Christ.    But what does "correct" and "right" mean, when it comes to careers and education? Justin talks about the importance of doing something you enjoy while also being able to support a family (whether your family is yourself, you and your children, etc). But what about education? Does education always mean 'college'? Not necessarily. There are many ways to be 'educated' and the best way for you might be completely different for someone else. What is the gift of tongues? What do members of the Church of Jesus Christ mean when they say this??    In many churches across the world, the gift of tongues may mean a variety of things. Some people will claim to have the gift of tongues when they are speaking in a language that no one understands. Others will claim to have the gift of tongues when they are speaking a language foreign to them but understood by others.    One example that members of the Church of Jesus Christ often use as an example of the gift of tongues is when LDS missionaries (also called Mormon missionaries) speak in a language that they know very little about. No matter if you were raised in the Church of Jesus Christ, are learning about the Church, or joined the church on your own, you NEED to have a testimony of your OWN! Having a testimony does not mean that you know everything so don't fall into the trap of believing you don't have a testimony just because you still have questions.    In the Church of Jesus Christ, members are encouraged to learn as much as they can about the gospel of Jesus Christ in order to make their own decisions about their commitment to the gospel. This is not a gospel of relying on other people to maintain strength but rather to feel empowered to act on your own. The LDS Church has counseled against dating before age 16. But why? And are there exceptions to the rule?    Justin explains that when he was young, he was very strict about not dating before he turned 16. But this made others curious as to why he had such a strange standard.    Kwaku, not being a member of the Church until he turned 18, says he wishes he would have had this dating counsel when he was young. He talks about his high school experience and how he dated people that weren't good for him.  David mentions how this counsel isn't just old, white guy counsel that is out of touch with reality. He speaks from a millennial point of view, that avoiding serious dating at a young age saves a lot of trouble. David says it pays to wait to date. There are A LOT of rumors about Mormons. "Mormons have little green men that work in the temple." "Mormons have horns." "Mormons can't eat chicken on Tuesdays." As humans, and particularly members of a devoted religion,  we tend to avoid the difficult topics. We want to avoid the uncomfortable but inherently crave to learn about the uncomfortable. We avoid scary questions but deep down want to know the answers. So what should we do? Keep avoiding? Mormons don't use the symbol of the cross nearly as often as many other Christian religions. Do Mormons believe that Jesus died on the cross?    In this episode, Kwaku, Justin and David talk about how though Mormons believe that Jesus was crucified on the cross, Mormons haven't been ones to adorn the cross. David argues that the frequent use of the cross just hasn't even been a 'thing' for Mormons. Kwaku and Justin both discuss the importance of and emphasis on the resurrection of Jesus Christ rather than the death of Jesus Christ.    Ultimately, it isn't inappropriate for a Mormon to wear the symbol of the cross. We talk with Don Bradley, author and scholar and all around incredible human!    The Book of Mormon is regarded as sacred text by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (otherwise known as Mormons). This Book of Mormon was written by ancient prophets in the Americas for generations and was then translated by Joseph Smith into English. However, during the translation process, a friend and confidant of Joseph Smith (named Martin Harris) had lost "116 pages" of the translated version -- a portion that hadn't been copied and thus, could not be recovered.    In this episode, Don Bradley mentions how he's always been fascinated with the idea of the lost pages and has wanted to learn more about the events and contents and all the facts surrounding the pages. He talks about everything that he has learned and tells us SO MUCH INFORMATION that we are learning for the first time!! Joseph Sim is a influential YouTuber and videographer. He started uploading videos to YouTube years ago. Joseph has been coming up with hilarious content that Mormons just can't stop sharing. We talk about speaking up and being bold to let people know more about Mormonism. If Mormons believe in the necessity of being baptized in the LDS Church, does that mean they believe that everyone else is going to go to hell?!    The short answer is no, we do not believe that everyone who isn't Mormon is going to go to hell. In fact, if hell is referred to as fire and brimstone and endless torment, we believe that VERY few people will be cursed to such a punishment. We also believe that not everyone baptized into the Mormon Church will end up in the highest 'degree of glory' (to live with God). Mimi has been a member of 3 Mormons for awhile now and we've LOVED having her :) She brings an element of happiness and love that we don't know how we lived without.    In this episode, Mimi shares her conversion story -- how she came to have a testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ found in the LDS (Mormon) Church. Mimi talks about growing up in a single-parent family and the difficulties that came with consistently going to Church due to her circumstances. Mimi says that up until she began Seminary in 9th grade, she didn't have a full conviction of the gospel in the LDS Church.
