There is an “us vs. them” mentality that has been tearing our world apart for centuries. It allows petty things like politics, economic, social status, age, and even skin color to draw hurtful boundaries between people. In Acts 11 we find an anonymous group of believers who show us what happens when the Church leads the way in shattering the us vs. them barrier.

In John chapter 4, Jesus goes back to Cana and has a chance encounter with a royal official from Herod’s court. He begs Jesus to heal his son, who is back home at Capernaum. Jesus is able to do at a distance what medicine couldn’t do at arm’s length, and his whole family become followers of Jesus and become involved in his ministry! We, too, can become disciple-makers when we want Jesus to do for others what he did in our life.

Whether we realize it or not, we are all searching for something that will satisfy our deepest desires. Jerry Naville teaches from John chapter 4, when Jesus has an encounter with a woman who is looking for water to drink, but instead finds eternal satisfaction for our soul. As a result her entire community is transformed! Jesus offers that same satisfaction to everyone who trusts in him.

Do you ever wish that you could have a do-over? Maybe you keep messing up that project at work, or you just find yourself coming up short time and time again? Kevin Russell preaches a powerful message from John 3, when Jesus had a conversation with a man who thought he was doing everything right, yet Jesus told him that he needed a new start…a new birth. The truth is, God accepts you because of what He did for you, not because of what you do for Him.

In John 2, we find a story about Jesus making a whip and clearing the temple courts, driving out money-changers and those taking advantage of the poor. What is the modern-day equivalent to Jesus’s cleansing of the temple? Since our bodies are now the temple of the Holy Spirit, we need to ask: What does Jesus need to clean out of my life?

There are so many things from life to enjoy. But when we make the things of this world our ULTIMATE source of joy, we are bound to be disappointed.    But the truth of this story, and the message that we believe John wants us to see, is that Jesus changes everything. No matter what you go through in life, Jesus is what you need. He’s our source of joy. When it comes to knowing God and growing in our relationship with him, we all want to know how to take a next step. In John chapter 1 we learn how Jesus met his first followers, but we also find a pathway for spiritual growth that is meant to serve as a repeating pattern in our lives that can help us grow spiritually, and can also guide us as we help the people we know find their way back to God through a relationship with Jesus.

Beholding the Lamb of God is how you begin a relationship with Jesus, and beholding is also how you grow in your relationship with Jesus. When you behold the Lamb of God by faith for the very first time, you can experience his love and forgiveness as you enter an eternal life-giving relationship with God. But you can experience the love of God and eternal life today, as you behold the Lamb of God by faith daily. Whenever you are faced with sin and brokenness, beholding the Lamb of God helps you grow closer to Jesus and experience his love and forgiveness every day.

In the opening verses to his gospel, John shares a message of hope that anyone can become a child of God through faith in Jesus…the problem is that there are a few challenges that we allow to stand in our way to fully receiving that promise.
