Chelsea FanCast TV is dead - Long live the Chelsea FanCast Podcast!! A funny old week at Chelsea – we go out rather limply on to 10 men on away goals to PSG in the Champions League and we fail to take advantage of another City slip up by only managing a draw at home to Southampton. Yes, it could have been much better, but why the hysteria? We were only a few minutes away from getting to the Champions League quarter finals and we have now extended our lead at the top of the table to 6 points with a game in hand. I think a healthy dose of Chidge perspective is needed on the show tonight, and by the way it is very good to be back I hope you missed me as much as I missed you! Jonathan Kydd is joined by Dr Mart, Darren Mantle and FFP expert Jake Cohen to discuss the appalling refereeing by Martin Atkinson which cost us all three points in the draw against Burnley; the rearguard draw against PSG; the Paris Metro racism incident and a discussion about what FFP entails for Chelsea. Former Referee's Chief Keith Hackett described Martin Atkinson's performance as arguably one of the worst in Premier League history, and who are we to argue. Two penalty claims; no punishment for a nasty foul on Brana Ivanovic and worse no punishment for a potentially career ending challenge on Nemanja Matic, who got sent off in reward for understandably reacting. Whilst Chelsea were not at the best, and should have put the game to bed long before, there's no doubt that Atkinson cost us all three points. Blimey, what a week – two full on proper games which mean we are at Wembley again and still have a 5 point gap between us and City. In the middle of all that our mate Costa gets a three game ban for apparently treading on a random Liverpool player and we got to say a proper thank you and farewell to a proper Chelsea legend. But most pleasing of all is the backs to the wall bloody minded performance against City having played 120 mins only a few days before, and the huge performances in both games by one Kurt Happy Zouma – the young Frenchman looks a real prospect. Stamford Chidge, Sophie Rose, Jonathan Kydd & Charlie Skillen discuss the fabulous 5-0 win against Swansea and look forward to the Capital One Cup semi-final v Liverpool. Chelsea upped their game against Swansea on Saturday with a 5-0 cull of the swans, and in the process played some superb football. Their build up play and passing was out of this world, and they were even peppering the Swansea goal with shots from outside the penalty area. 1-0 up in 49 seconds is pretty good, but 4-0 up inside 35 minutes is very special, or as Jose said “perfect”. But was this the perfect performance and are we seeing the best ever football played by a Chelsea side? Chelsea got back to winning ways and the title challenge got back on track with a 2-0 win against Newcastle on Saturday, but they made hard work of it. So the Christmas marathon finally came to an end yesterday as Chelsea washed away their New Year’s Day blues with a win against Watford in the FA Cup. After a poor first half, Jose brought on the cavalry in the form of Willian and Diego Costa and Chelsea ended up winning comfortably. More noteworthy though was the absence of Jose’s untouchables. Has the Special One finally realized that some of our players clearly needed a rest? Better late than never I suppose. Jose had promised us youth in the team, but all we got was Rubin Loftus-Cheek for an 8 minute cameo at the end when Jose believed the game to be safe. Will Jose blood the promising youth players or is he too risk averse. And in the light of 2 submissions and a fall or two bookings and a let off for diving in the 2-0 win against Hull, was Jose unwise to declare that Chelsea players don’t dive a few months ago. On Wednesday we battered our bitter North London rivals to maintain our unbeaten home record against them which goes back to 1990. On Saturday we faced a different type of bogeymen – Newcastle – a team that Mourinho has yet to beat in the league. Arch bogeyman, Papiss Cisse scored twice against Chelsea again, and although we threw the kitchen sink at them in the last 15 minutes, we lost for the first time since May – 24 games ago. Well at least all the invincibles nonsense can be put to bed and we can get on with winning points and the title going forward. Chelsea came up against a red & white brick wall against Sunderland on Saturday and a frustrating evening was had by all, especially street fighting man Diego Costa who tried very hard to get sent off and is now suspended for the Spurs match on Wednesday. Were the players tired after 3 games in a week? Were they off their game by 10% or did Sunderland play out of their skins and defend for their lives? Can we expect more of the same from teams now scared of letting Chelsea run away with it? At the end of the day this is a game we might have lost last season and as we stand we are still unbeaten and top of the league and we’ve got Spurs on Wednesday! Thanks to a lack of crew in the TV studio we had to return to our roots and do an old skool podcast this week, which seemed appropriate as it is our 300th, yes 300th show! Chelsea waltzed to an easy 2-0 win against the Baggies on Saturday with Hazard, Oscar, Fabregas, Willian and Cost putting on a dazzling display. The game was all over on half an hour when Yacob was sent off for a two footed lunge on Costa. Should we have battered them more than two nil - probably? Do we care so long as we got all three points – probably not! At the end of the day we are seeing some great football, we have broken our record for games unbeaten at the start of the season and of course “we’re top of the league, we’re top of the league! Stamford Chidge, Sophie, Pablo, Jonathan & Seb and the Benches discuss the clinical win against Liverpool and the frustrating draw against Maribor, as well as the Fannies, Chelsea Chadders Stats and the Chelsea news round up. Chelsea shook off their somewhat complacent draw with Maribor last Tuesday with a gritty and intimidating performance at Anfield on Saturday. Liverpool drew first blood rather luckily but after equalizing, Chelsea always looked like winning and once Costa slammed the ball in to the net to make it 2-1, Jose Mourinho’s Mean Machine crushed the life out of Liverpool and the match to take all three points. But it could have been different had referee Antony Taylor given hand ball against Cahill for what might have been an equalizing penalty for Liverpool. But that’s how the cards fall and the Blues go marching on!
