    28/01/2019 Duração: 03h08min

This weeks’ podcast is with Chris Luera, aka Tatted Strength. We first met Chris in 2017 when we were putting together the feature with him that appears in Issue 2. We hung out with him for an hour or so in the Sunshine of Muscle Beach LA listening to Chris’ incredible story. When we knew we would be back in that part of the world, we wanted to honour that story but putting it down on tape so to speak. We thought we knew what was coming, but we didn’t! We knew an outline of his story and not the fine details which is what you’re about to hear. To give you a slight inkling, Chris is now the 3 x middleweight WCO calisthenics world champion. Yet, he was born a drug addict from a mother who was also born to a drug addict. Chris himself was using drugs and in gangs in his early teenage years fed by the mindset of ‘I am who I am because of where I come from’. This led Chris by the time he was in his early 20’s to having already served 10 years in and out of various prison establishments. Listening to Chris talk at

This weeks podcast is the recording of a conversation we had with Tommy Caldwell at the start of 2017. The short story behind this conversation is that we had a received an advance copy of Tommy’s book ’The Push’, had been blown away by it and had then found out he would be in Fountain Blu, a five hours drive away us, a few months later and would be available to co-create a feature with us for issue 2.For those of you who don’t know, Tommy is the legendary climber who back in 2015 became more widely known through his first ascent of the Dawn Wall, of El Capitan in Yosemite Valley. This is widely regarded as one of the hardest climbs in the world and became worldwide headline news, but is only the tip of the iceberg in his achievements and life experiences. There’s the being kidnapped at gunpoint in the remote Ak Su Valley of Kyrgyzstan almost 20 years ago, the speed record on El Cap and various other climbing achievements throughout his career, the loss of one of his fingers in a sawing accident and a whole l

As we gear up to the podcasts of our last US trip we are putting out 3 conversations that complete Issue 2 and lead into 2019 and the movement revolution that is gathering pace. This week we release the conversation with Jonny Paskowitz (@jonnysurfer). Second eldest in the legendary Paskowitz surf family. Their tale is like an extended Huckleberry Finn, an entire family of 11 living in a camper van, travelling the US surfing daily, competing and living by the laws of nature, lead by their father Dorian “Doc” Paskowitz. We got to know of Jonny through a friend of ours and a chance encounter with “Doc’s" book "Surfing and Health - Live long live well”, where Doc laid out a manifesto for living to out potential, preceding much of the wellness and health boom that we re surrounded by today.Quite the forward thinker under Docs philosophy of “Eat clean, live clean, surf clean”, the kids were introduced to the ocean and made to surf every day as soon as they could swim. Today on the show we have Nathaniel Cole, co-founder of London based Swim Dem Crew. Swim Dem are an inner-city swim club who believe in the power of community, and who found their roots and mentorship in Charlie Dark’s Run Dem Crew. As with Charlie’s running crew, Nathaniel and his co-founders are providing a no pressure community based space, focused around a movement practice that allows everyone to simply be themselves. What we hear in this podcast is the reoccurring theme of Nathaniel’s long held desire of wanting to help people firstly when he talks to us about all things Swim Dem Crew, and secondly when he tells us about his charity work with youth males exploring their masculinity. It’s easy to see parallel’s between the Swim Dem and Run Dem Crews, and clearly between Nathaniel and Charlie. The world certainly benefits from both of these people and their community creations.

Getting outside and putting your gains to the test. This is where the climbing wall comes in and puts Barbers firmly at the intersection of the training facility for people that are wanting to add dimensions to their practice, be they seasoned athletes or raw beginners from climbing, or another practice. This isn’t the largest wall in the world but biggest isn’t always best. Inspired by Mark Twight @wfmft and his, at the time ground breaking Gym Jones ideas and his l
