Matthew 17v1-9 What does the transfiguration of Christ have to show us about our relationship with God?

God has adopted us as his children. Being a good father we do not need to worry as He will provide us with all we need.

Christ empowers believers to live according to His royal law - preserving the world from evil and revealing God's love.

God blesses His people in times and ways they do not expect.

The first four disciples' immediate response to Jesus points us to the beauty of Christ. The Lord's beauty is a vital part of our faith, it captures our hearts and inspires us, sustaining and strengthening our faith.

Like God's people in exile, we are more than happy to be saved from evil and safe in God's service, but His plans for us are even bigger: 'It is too small a thing for you to be called my servant...'

At Epiphany the Spirit descends on creation through Christ. The whole world is sanctified, changing how we perceive the created order and God's providence. We go from outsiders to insiders, strangers to God's family. His awesome holiness is revealed to be his perfect love

John's beautiful prologue contains amazing truths about God and our relationship with Him through Christ.

The power of nostalgia means it can be misused or abused, but ultimately it is meant to lead us to Christ, the source of all goodness.

Principles will get us so far. but abiding in God's presence draws us into the deeper things of the Kingdom.

What kind of Christmas do you want? Only a Christmas where Jesus is near will satisfy our deepest longings.

God's plan and God's people rarely match our expectations, but that is not a bad thing. God calls us to recognise his precious invitation to encounter Christ in them, even when out own nature makes that hard.
