Bridging The Gap

The church in Corinth was experiencing some big problems, to put it mildly. They had refused to deal with a specific sin in the church. Such sins left unchecked can polarize and paralyze a church, as we see happening in many churches today. In the name of tolerance, people are being allowed to live in sin without being confronted in love.

Role models are everywhere - from athletes to actors, but for the Christian, a role model should be someone with consistency in their life – the kind of person who is the same on Sunday morning as they are throughout the week. And it’s important that they resemble Christ! Today we'll see the difference between talk and action and be encouraged to practice what we preach.

The Corinthian church was divided into cliques based on who their favorite teacher was. Some liked Paul, some liked Apollos, and so on. But Paul pointed out that each preacher was simply a humble servant of the Lord, and that the messenger is not greater than the message. As we begin today’s study, ask yourself why you attend your particular church. Is it because of the message or the messenger?

Paul encouraged the believers in Corinth to examine their hearts and see if they were really living the way God desired them to.This serves as an example for us today as well. Each day God presents us with opportunities that challenge us to do what is godly. How will we respond?

As we open up First Corinthians four today, we uncover a valuable lesson, as we evaluate our heart. Remember what The Lord Jesus said - where your treasure is, there your heart will be also!  Let's find our place in First Corinthians chapter four.

We're continuing our study of First Corinthians today with a closer look at chapter three and what the Apostle Paul had to say concerning our relevance in the world. As we'll see in our study today, Christians need to grow up and be mature when it comes to living out God’s plan.

Would you give a baby a plate of prime rib? Or would you give an adult a baby's bottle? Of course not! As humans, we are supposed grow and develop. Likewise, Christians are called to develop and mature in our relationship with the Lord. So, how do we do this? We’ll talk about that today on Bridging the Gap.

Many people in the hostile culture of 2022, view God as some sort of cosmic kill joy. The reality is quite the opposite. He has a wonderful and exciting plan for our lives. A plan that includes a glorious future and a real hope. So why are too few experiencing all that God has for them? Partly because they're seeking out man's wisdom rather than God's! We’ll talk about that today as we head back into First Corinthians chapter two.

Pastor Lloyd Pulley has been leading us verse by verse through First Corinthians, and today we’re midway through chapter one. We can spend a lifetime accumulating knowledge and yet never learn how to have a real and personal relationship with God. Simple head knowledge was never God's intention for us!

While there's certainly nothing wrong with having a different opinion than the guy seated next to you, serious problems can occur when it leads to a fight or worse yet division! We're in the early stages of our study in First Corinthians. Today we’ll be focused on chapter one, verses ten through twenty-five verses. As you may know, there were a lot of problems within the church at Corinth and Paul is going to address them throughout the epistle. But before he corrects them, he encourages and commends them! He wants them focus on who they are in Christ.

Today on Bridging the Gap, we’re excited to continue a new study in First Corinthians! Pastor Lloyd Pulley will continue to look at the first nine verses of chapter one. We are also looking at the reasons this wonderful letter was written and the purpose behind it.

Today we begin a new series in First Corinthians, and as we go along, you’re going to discover something that pastor Lloyd is going to point out numerous times during this series - the church in Corinth was facing some of the same issues our world and our church faces today. The bible as a living document is extremely relatable to today’s world, and it’s especially true of this book - Paul’s first letter to the church in Corinth.

Welcome to Bridging the Gap, with Pastor Lloyd Pulley, and happy Thanksgiving Day! It seems appropriate that we’ll be wrapping up our study of Second Peter today, because we find in these verses something to be very thankful for - a great promise that one day we’ll be completely independent of sin’s consequence.

Pastor Lloyd is nearing the end of a study through Second Peter, and today we’ll again be in chapter three of this wonderful little letter. Peter spends the final chapter of this epistle reminding his friends that there are indeed many things for us to do before the Lord’s return, and we shouldn’t get caught up in simply waiting around for that glorious event.

Hurricane season in the United States is June through November. In order to survive a Hurricane, you must be prepared. One day the Lord will return and this earth will be changed forever. Are you prepared? Our scripture text is Second Peter chapter three, verses eleven through fourteen.
