  • Idol Minds pt 3: Power

    16/05/2021 Duração: 31min

Has the idol of “power” captured your focus? An idol is anything or anyone we allow to take the place of God in our lives, anything or anyone we worship, anything or anyone that you serve. We must choose who we will serve: your default will be to serve the idols passed along to you by your family and by your culture. We get rid of idols in three steps: recognize, repent and replace. In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally addresses the idol of power.Zechariah 4:6 “‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD Almighty.”The kingdom of God grows by God’s Spirit, not by our strength. Matthew 20:25-28Christianity will spread when the church is at-your-feet instead of in-your face. Two idols of power we are tempted to serve:THE IDOL OF SUCCESS.Matthew 16:26 God's goal for you is not worldly success but spiritual blessing. Here’s the difference: success is earned by you, blessing is given by God. Success is achieved, blessing is received. When worshipping the God of success, what you have be

In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally shares a warning and a remedy concerning our relationships. Luke 14:26 "If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters--yes, even their own life--such a person cannot be my disciple.”NLT – you must by comparison hate everyone else. AMP – must have “relative disregard for them.” TPT – put aside every other relationship.  All of these relationships—romantic love, your family and your own life—are gifts from God. But remember, good gifts make bad gods. Romantic Love:Genesis 29:14-35Leah stopped looki

Although you may not have a statue of Buddha in your home, we all struggle with idolatry. In this message,  Pastor Jamie Nunnally explains why idolatry is such a big deal and what we can do about it.  Here are some idols that you might have:FoodSexEntertainmentHobbiesLeisureSuccessMoneyPossessions RomanceFamilyYourself These can be gifts in our lives. But, good gifts make bad gods.  What is an idol? Exodus 20:3-5 1. Anything or anyone we allow to take the place of God in our lives. God is not supposed to be your favorite, but your one and only. 2. Anything or anyone we worship. 3. Anything or anyone that you serve. We have a tendency to worship idols. Joshua 24:15  Why is idolatry such a big deal?1. Idols hurt us. 1 Corinthians 10:6-14 2. Who or what you worship determines what kind of person you’ll be. Psalm 106:19-20 3. Idolatry isn’t just a sin, it’s the root of all sin. In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally answers part 2 of questions that were submitted by the VFC church family.  Were giants in the Old Testament real giants or just really big people? Genesis 6:2-5  Is it possible that there are aliens and other life forms on other planets and universes besides Earth?  How do we know that Christianity is the “right” religion? Why would God have people born in a country full of nonbelievers? Romans 8:16 Why is deliverance such a taboo topic in some of the church?  How do we deal with fellow believers who aren’t speaking the truth in love? Do you have questions about faith? That’s ok! Questions help us learn and grow. Jesus welcomed and answered questions. In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally answers part 1 of questions that were submitted by the VFC church family.  If Adam and Eve were the first people, where did Cain’s wife come from? Genesis 4:17 If Jesus died on Friday and wasn’t there on Sunday morning, how was He died for 3 days? Matthew 12:40  How can I share about my faith when I have such a bad past, filled with guilt and shame? Doesn’t it make me look hypocritical to people that knew me before? 1 John 1:7-9 What did Jesus mean when he said you will do even greater things than me? • Baggage: Live Free, Travel Light

    18/04/2021 Duração: 38min

How much baggage are you carrying?  We accrue baggage as we go through life, and we can we can choose to pick it up or put it down. In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally teaches us how to travel light.  1. Our baggage slows us down.Hebrews 12:1 “... let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.” 2. Our baggage affects others.Hebrews 12:15 Unforgiveness is contagious. People with baggage always want you to help them carry it. 3. Our baggage is released through forgiveness. John 20:23 Too many people are retaining what they should be releasing.  Forgiveness is not:1. Denying what happened.2. Excusing bad behavior. It doesn’t mean what they did was OK. When Jesus forgave us, he wasn’t making sin right, He was making sinners righteous.3. Shielding someone from consequences. You can forgive someone and call the cops. 4. A guarantee that someone will change. You don’t forgive people for them, you forgiv

  • Built to Last

    11/04/2021 Duração: 29min

You’re always living in something that’s been built - good or bad - by you or someone else.  In this message, Tiffany Nunnally encourages us to consider where you are living and what you are building.   If you don’t know Jesus you’re spiritually homeless. Our job is to save the homeless, bring them to our house and help them build their own.  3 Types of structures that are built to last:   1. A Lighthouse. Matt. 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world - like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts in under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”  2. A storm shelter.  Psalm 91:1-2 “He who dwells in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty.  I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God in Him I will trust.”  3. A fortress.Psalm 18:2 “The Lord is my r

  • Easter: Belong. Believe. Become

    04/04/2021 Duração: 45min

We often focus on Jesus dying on a cross, but our faith is REALLY about Jesus living and breathing AFTER dying on a cross. In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally, shares how the death of Jesus makes the way for each of us to belong, believe, and become in this life.  John 11:25 “Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.”  1 Corinthians. 15:55 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” Christians don’t die, we just change locations. So, what does Easter mean for us?The resurrection lets us belong, believe and become. John 8:2-12  1. Because of the resurrection, you BELONG.Jesus defended her, He accepted her, then He discipled her. How you respond to other people’s sin reveals how much like Jesus you are.  2. Because of the resurrection, you can BELIEVE.Acts 1:3 “During the forty days after he suffered and died, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. And h

  • Culture Shock Part 4: Kingdom Communication

    28/03/2021 Duração: 35min

Every culture has their own language. So, what is the language of God's Kingdom? In this message, Pastor Jamie shares how we can use our words for His glory. In the New Testament, James says that whoever tames his tongue is a perfect man. One of things that makes up a culture is language, and there is a Kingdom language that Christians are supposed to speak. Your words are tools that can be used to help or hurt. What you say can bring hope or bring harm. It’s up to you.  Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”  What you say matters. 1. Your words are powerful. Proverbs 12:18  Psalm 141:3  2. You don’t have to say everything you think.Your tongue can un-do your testimony. You don’t have to have an opinion on everything. Proverbs 13:3 James 1:26  3. Your words reveal the real you.Luke 6:45 Your words are a window into who you are.     How to speak Kingdom Communication:1. Kingdom Communication requires that you are aware of who you’re talkin

  • Culture Shock Part 3: You Are What You Eat

    21/03/2021 Duração: 34min

You’ve heard that  “You are what you eat.” Do you know that this applies to your spiritual life? So, what did you eat today? In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally shares how to make sure that you are properly feeding yourself spiritually. Food is one of the things that make up a culture. We were created to require constant intake and that intake determines our output. Proverbs 4:23 – “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”  What you eat matters:1. You’re full of what you feed on.If you’re full of the world, you won’t have room for things of the spirit. If you’re full of the Spirit, you won’t be tempted by things of the world.  2. You crave what you consume.Feeding an appetite doesn’t make it go away, it makes it grow. 3. Lack of hunger is a symptom of sickness. If you've lost your appetite for spiritual food, you're probably spiritually sick. What you hunger for reveals your health. 4. Your quality of food determines your quality of life.Other things may make y

  • Culture Shock part 2: Kingdom Clothes

    14/03/2021 Duração: 36min

Different cultures have different clothing styles. So, what are people in the Kingdom of God supposed to be wearing? In this series, we are learning how to be in the world but not of the world. In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally shares the essentials of walking in your kingdom identity and authority.  Your clothing reveals your identity.Mark 10:50 – “Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.” Your clothing reveals your authority.Luke 15:22 “But his father said to the servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet.” What are the kingdom clothes that Christians should wear? 1. Right living. Romans 13:12-13 “The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living. 13 Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in

  • Culture Shock part 1: Home is Where the Heart Is

    07/03/2021 Duração: 39min

The Bible says that we are not of this world. So where are we from? And how do we live here in the meantime? In this message, Pastor Jamie launches a new series with a message called "Home is Where the Heart Is."Culture shock is the feeling of disorientation experienced by someone who is subjected to an unfamiliar culture or way of life.Jesus' prayer to the Father:John 17:15-16 “My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.” Home is Where the Heart is:1. You are not from here. Phil 3:20 “For our citizenship is in heaven.”Passion Translation: “we are a colony of heaven on earth”  You know what’s weird to me? It’s not the sinners who sin, but Christians who don’t change. Second Cor. 5:20 – we are “Ambasadors,” a representative from another land, culture or government. 2. This world is passing away. 1 John 2:15-17 The only thing this world can offer you is pleasure, possessions and pride; and non

  • Power Up Part 4: Power in Agreement

    28/02/2021 Duração: 37min

Does your life need a power up? In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally shares about the power available to every believer when we agree.  Matthew 18:19 “I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you.   Greek word for agree: symphoneo (symphony) to harmonize; to make a bargain. Cacophony: harsh discordant mixture of sounds. Agreement brought power at Pentecost:Acts 1:12-14; 2:1-2 Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, a distance of half a mile. 13 When they arrived, they went to the upstairs room of the house where they were staying. Here are the names of those who were present: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James (son of Alphaeus), Simon (the zealot), and Judas (son of James). 14 They all met together and were constantly united in prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus.2:1 On the day of Pentecost all the believers were

  • Power Up Part 3: Power in the Name of Jesus

    25/02/2021 Duração: 35min

Names, are they important? Is “Jesus” the magic word? What was Jesus’ last name? In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally shares biblical insight about the power found in the name of Jesus.  Philippians 2:9-11 “Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,  to the glory of God the Father.”What is Jesus’ name? Yeshua in Hebrew (Joshua), Iēsoûs  in Greek (Jesus)The names means “Jehovah is salvation” Mashiach in Hebrew (Messiah), Christos in Greek (Christ) Using the name of Jesus is not magic. John 14:13-14 “You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. 14 Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!” When you do something in Jesus’ name you are doing it in His authority, His ability and His attitude. Praying in Jesus name is not as much about the words y

  • Power Up Part 2: Power in Weakness

    14/02/2021 Duração: 33min

Power in weakness? Our culture says that to gain power, you need to work harder. Our culture says to do more. Pastor Eric Robertson shares biblical advice to find power in weakness. Sometimes we think that to walk in the power of God, we need to pray more and read the Bible more.  Many times our work takes the focus off of God, who is our source of power.God chooses the weak.    "The Bible has a history of choosing unconventional people in extraordinary ways.”·         Gideon (Judges 6:11) ·         Moses (Exodus 3:4)·         David (1 Samuel 16:7) God doesn’t look for people who have it all together but for people He can pour his power into. How do you Power Up?     1) Acknowledge your weakness.     2) Invite God into it.      3) Talk about it.2 Corinthians 11:30 Paul boasted in weakness: “ If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.”2 Corinthians12:9 “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more

    07/02/2021 Duração: 33min

Everyone likes upgrades! Do you want to know how to upgrade your spiritual life? In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally shares godly insight on how to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit wants to be IN you and ON you. Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”Acts 19:1-7  The Holy Spirit on you gives you power.Luke 24:49 “I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”  Your salvation helps you, but your empowerment helps others.  What kind of power does the Holy Spirit make available to us? 1. The power to change. Gal. 5:16 “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” Ephesians 2:13 “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.”Work out your salvation, not work at your salvation. 2. The p

  • I Have Decided, Part 4: Disciples Who Make Disciples

    31/01/2021 Duração: 37min

According to Jesus, disciples make new disciples. But how to you go about that? In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally shares biblical insights about how you can make disciples.  Kingdom growth is designed to be by multiplication, not addition.2 Timothy 2:2  Every Christian should be a disciple and should have a disciple. 1. You should be someone’s disciple.1 Corinthians 11:1 “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.”2. You should have a disciple.Ephesians 4:16 You often grow more by teaching the class then by taking the class. Discipleship is NOT:1. Having or being a clone.Hebrews 13:6 2. Controlling or being controlled.Colossians 1:18 You leaders don’t hear from God for you; they hear from God with you.3. Bible study.2 Timothy 3:10 Discipleship is not only bible study but behavior study and application through conversation.   How do you make disciples?1.Be the kind of person others want to follow. 1 Peter 5:3 “Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example.”Gro

  • I Have Decided Part3: What Did Jesus Do?

    24/01/2021 Duração: 33min

Have you ever heard someone ask "What would Jesus do?" That question is answered when we look at scripture and ask "What DID Jesus do?" In this message, Pastor Jamie shares about what Jesus did so that we Jesus-followers know what we should expect to be doing as well. We can know what would Jesus do when we look at what did Jesus do. Jesus is our example:1 Peter 2:21“…He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.”1 John 2:6“Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.”Your Jesus-talk is supposed authenticated by your Jesus-walk.1 John 4:17“…as he is so also are we in this world.”We are Jesus’ representatives. A representative re-presents something or someone to the world around them.  Three Things Jesus Did That We Should Also Do: Words, Works and Wonders.1. Words. Jesus used words to preach the gospel of the kingdom. Matthew 4:17, 2 Corinthians 5:19-20 2. Works. Jesus did good works that demonstrated the love of God. John 9:4, Matthew 5:16Love people until

  • I Have Decided part 2: Follow the Leader

    17/01/2021 Duração: 30min

Did you ever play Follow The Leader? In this message Pastor Jamie Nunnally explains that discipleship is simply doing what your leader does.  The word disciple appears over 200 times in the New Testament. “Christian” only 3. The Bible is a book about disciples written by disciples, intended to be read by disciples. What is a disciple?A disciple is an apprentice: someone who learns by doing. John 8:31-32 “A disciple is a person who has decided that the most important thing in their life is to learn how to do what Jesus said to do.” — Dallas Willard Who can be a disciple of Jesus?Matthew 4:18-22, Matthew 9:9  The goal of Christianity is not behavior modification, but heart transformation—with the understanding that as your heart changes, your conduct will change.  How do we follow the leader?Matthew 28:18-201. A disciple embraces Jesus’ authority, not their own. In the game follow the leader, there has to be one leader! 2. A disciple is baptized – Immersed. In the game follow the leader you have to be committed

  • I Have Decided, Part 1: Follow Jesus

    10/01/2021 Duração: 38min

Who are you following? Maybe you consider yourself a follower of Jesus. Are you a follower? A fan? A secret admirer? In this message Pastor Jamie describes three types of relationships people have with Jesus. Which one are you?   1. Secret admirer.John 3:1-2“There was a man named Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader who was a Pharisee. 2 After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus. “Rabbi,” he said, “we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.”A secret admirer only THINKS about the object of their affection. 2. Fan.John 6:1-2, 25-26, 53, 66 A fan declares their devotion, but it doesn’t change their life. 3. Follower.John 6:67-69“Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, “Are you also going to leave?” 68 Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. 69 We believe, and we know you are the Holy One of God.”Luke 9:23“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily an
