    Dr Paul Wood has had a very colourful life. At age 18 and having just lost his mum he was on a path for disaster, a drug addict and entrenched already in a criminal underworld. One night a drug dealer tried to molest him and the young Paul reacted violently and caused the death of this man. He had just days before lost his mother and had been the victim of sexual abuse in his childhood and so his reactions were beyond what the situation called for. He was convicted and would spend the next 11 years in jail, most of it in the high security unit at Paremoremo but this is where the story gets interesting. Instead of living the predictable criminals life, Paul eventually got the chance to study while inside and this changed him and his destiny. He was the first inmate in NZ to come out of prison with a Doctorate to his name.
